It seems like if the NY Jets aren’t talking trash in the lead up to a big game, there is something wrong…Don’t worry though, Jets fans, there is plenty of smack-talk coming out of that locker room this week!
Coach Rex Ryan is once again declaring an upcoming match as “personal” – last week it was “personal” between Ryan and Colts QB Peyton Manning, this time around, Pats coach Bill Belichick is his target. Ryan says there’s “no question” its personal after he admits he was “outcoached” in a 45-3 loss to the Patriots at the start of December.
For his part, Belichick says…well…not too much, but that’s what you expected, isn’t it?
The coach isn’t the only one running his mouth: Did you hear what Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie said this week about Pats QB Tom Brady?
When asked what kind of guy Brady is, Cromartie replied that he’s an a-hole and threw in another swear word for good measure! He’s upset that Brady apparently pointed to the Jets bench after scoring a touchdown in that lopsided win on December 6th. What do you think Brady said about that?
If you guessed “not much,” you are absolutely right! From ESPN:
“I’ve been called worse. I’m sure there is a long list of people that feel that way. But he’s a good player. [Darrelle] Revis is a great player. They have a great secondary. They’re one of the best defenses we’ve faced. We spend a lot of time preparing for them, and what they’re capable of doing over there.”
Brady went on to say that he doesn’t think he’s ever pointed at anyone after a touchdown and doesn’t remember doing it against the Jets. It’s hard to stir up controversy in New England, but did you notice the tiny shot Brady took at Cromartie? He calls him “a good player” and in the next sentence calls Revis “great.”
That’s about as close we’ll ever get to a public insult coming out of that locker room I think!
The Favre Files
His career is allegedly over, his team didn’t make the playoffs and he wrapped up the season with a string of injuries…but Brett Favre is still making headlines!
Let’s start with that pending lawsuit against the old gunslinger: ProFootballTalk reports a third massage therapist could become involved, as we learn a few new tidbits about the case.
The lawyer representing Christina Scavo and Shannon O’Toole says Favre’s alleged “advances” were made directly to this third woman. They say he sent messages to the unnamed third lady, asking her to come to his hotel with Scavo.
Lawyer David Jaraslowicz says that woman has contacted him and it’s “possible” that she’ll be joining the lawsuit. Here’s an interesting little fact: he also acknowledges that Favre made no direct communication with Scavo or O’Toole.
Meanwhile, the co-defendant in the case says the whole thing is “baseless,” at least when it comes to her involvement.
Lisa Ripi was the massage therapist supervisor for the Jets and says she did nothing wrong, accusing the two plaintiffs of trying to “jump on the bandwagon in the hopes of getting a financial windfall,” says Newsday (via USA Today). She may be right – TMZ reports one of the accusers was recently sued by American Express for not paying an almost $19,000 credit card bill!
That’s not the only thing going on in Favre’s world though – his sister was arrested on Wednesday during a raid of a Mississippi meth lab.
Brandi Favre, one of five people arrested, is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and generating hazardous waste and was being held on $40,000 bond. The Associated Press reports she could face up to 30 years in prison on each count and fines of up to $1-million.
A local police officer says the 34-year-old is “always in trouble.” I guess it runs in the family, to a certain extent!
One other note: The Huffington Post reports that Jenn Sterger, who was allegedly on the receiving end of some dirty picture messages from Favre, is set to make her first public appearance since the scandal sometime in March.
There was one play last weekend that stands apart from the rest, and it may well be the play of the entire season. Do you know which one I’m talking about? It was so intense that it resulted in seismic activity around the stadium!
If you missed it, there are two words you need to know: Beast Mode.
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch put his stamp on a surprise victory over the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints last Saturday with an amazing 67-yard run for a TD late in the fourth quarter. He broke through the first wave of tackles, broke through the second wave and then sprinted away from the third. Still on his feet, Lynch delivered a stiff-arm near the 35-yard line that would send a normal person to hospital and continued down the sideline. With the end zone in sight, he had the people of Seattle on their feet as he crossed the plane and put the Seahawks up for good.
He tells the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that more people are talking to him about the run than the win this week, but when you see it you’ll understand why:
The video has become a hit on YouTube, with some very awesome (and very creative) reproductions…like the Tecmo version:
Here’s another beauty – the footage is the same, but the music seems oh-so-fitting, doesn’t it?
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he doesn’t think a lockout would be “disastrous” to the sport…others disagree though!
Apparently Seattle Seahawks fans are getting ripped off at the Qwest Field beer counter…
Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb says he wants to be a starter…even if that means going elsewhere!
Last Saturday’s playoff games apparently set a bunch of TV ratings milestones for the NFL…
