As the Barry Bonds perjury trial gets into its second week, it’s another former baseball player with links to steroids that has people talking…
Yes, the internet is abuzz today with the latest Jose Canseco controversy: The “Juiced” author is in a bit of a dispute with a (shady) celebrity boxing promoter after he apparently didn’t show up for a fight on Saturday. If ESPN is to be believed (we’ll get to that in a minute), not only did Canseco not show up, he sent his twin brother Ozzie in his place!
Jose was supposed to fight at a Hard Rock Café in a place called Hollywood, Florida, but promoter Damon Feldman says it all fell apart when the wrong brother walked through the door. There are conflicting reports, but ESPN says some of the fans in attendance started to pipe up when they noticed Canseco’s tattoos weren’t right.
Radar Online tells a completely different story though…
They say Jose was there, which was confirmed to them by his would-be opponent, Billy Padden. Their sources say that Canseco wanted his money before the fight because he’s had issues with Feldman in the past, and when he didn’t get it he left. They also confirm that Ozzie was there too, but that he was just a spectator.
After the fact, Jose took to Twitter to tell his side of the story. Here are some of the highlights:
First off, I’m pretty sure that ESPN isn’t owned by the MLB…but maybe Jose knows something I don’t. As for the media being right 20 percent of 50 percent of the time – I’m not very good at math, but I think the overall batting average is just a touch higher than that!
The initial comment is an interesting one though: “Be very careful with Damon Feldman who runs celebrity boxing he will not pay you if you fight for him.”
Here are a couple of things you should know about this Feldman character: He’s been in trouble with the law recently for fixing fights and promoting fights without a license, and he’s the type of guy who wound find himself in a hotel lobby scuffle with someone like Lindsay Lohan’s dad.
In other words, he’s not the most trustworthy fellow in the game. Then again, Jose Canseco is a bit sketchy as well…
Who do you believe?
