If the Edmonton Eskimos are going to win football games this season, it will be like the ones they won at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday night.
It will be with rock solid defense at key situations.
Saturday night, the Eskimos defense came up big time after time– highlighted by a key tackle by linebacker J.C. Sherritt on Toronto’s final drive that prevented them from getting a first down.
Sherritt led the Eskimos with tackles and a forced fumble.
It was also a great performance by defensive lineman Almondo Sewell who had two sacks.
I know this game was all about Ricky Ray coming back to Edmonton in a Toronto Argonaut uniform, but the Eskimos defense are the ones that deserve significant credit for their great overall performance.
Ray simply never got in sync with his receivers.
The other reason for the Edmonton victory was their team discipline. Toronto took 18 penalties to Edmonton’s seven.
The Eskimos next play the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who looked great in Hamilton last night, next Sunday.
