According to the Canadian Press, Team Canada has qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in women’s basketball.
On Sunday in Ankara, Turkey, Courtnay Pilypaitis of Orleans, Ontario scored 21 points and six assists in a 71-63 win over Team Japan.
It was an excellent tournament for Pilypaitis, who regularly led Canada in scoring. Team Canada was the fifth and final team to qualify for the Olympic Games out of the twelve team second chance qualifier that took place this week.
The Canadian women’s basketball players will join the Canadian women’s soccer players as the teams that will represent Canada in team competition at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Canada dominated the first quarter, outscoring Japan 21-11. In fact, they scored the first 11 points in the contest.
Now we also know the two pools for the tournament. Canada is in Pool B with Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Russia and the Czech Republic. While Pool A consists of the United States, Angola, China, France, Turkey and Croatia.
