Roughnecks fire their winning coach– Why?

The Calgary Roughnecks  have decided they will not be renewing the contract of head coach Dave Pym.

According to www.calgaryroughnecks.com, Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board stated it was a very difficult decision to make and will concentrate immediately on finding his replacement.

While serving as head coach of the Roughnecks over the last two seasons in the National Lacrosse League, Pym had an overall record of 33-15.

But one achievement Pym was not able to deliver was a league championship. In 2010 and 2012 the Roughnecks lost to the Edmonton Rush at home in the National Lacrosse League Western Division Semi-Final, and in 2011, the Roughnecks lost to the Washington Stealth in the Western Division Final.

Pym not returning to the Roughnecks for next season seems rather puzzling, especially when Calgary has been very successful under some turbulent circumstances while he has been head coach. During the 2010-11 season, there was a strong chance the Roughnecks would leave Calgary due to ownership issues, but Pym did a great job in ensuring his players focused on his game plan.
