Roughriders move from worst to first

It was just a year ago the Saskatchewan Roughriders were at the very bottom of the Western Division of the Canadian Football League.

How times have changed.

Yesterday afternoon at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium, former Edmonton Eskimo Tristan Jackson ran an unsuccessful field goal 129 yards for a touchdown as Saskatchewan defeated the British Columbia Lions 23-20.

At 3-0, the Riders not only sit in first place in the west, but are the only team undefeated in the entire league.

Roughriders rookie running back Kory Sheets is also coming into his own. Sheets had 76 yards and a  touchdown. He has now found the end zone in all three games this season.

Before the contest even began, the Roughriders received great news. Plans are underway to build a new stadium in Regina by 2017.

The Roughriders now will be focusing on the Calgary Stampeders as the two clubs will meet Thursday at McMahon Stadium. Game time is 8pm. The Lions meanwhile will host the Eskimos Friday.
