It should come as absolutely no shock whatsoever that the proposed downtown Edmonton arena is over budget.
According to the Canadian Press, the cost estimate for the arena is $485, which is $35 million more set as the maximum price by the city.
Edmonton mayor Stephen Mandel is saying all the right things.
“I think it just shows though that, with a reasonable balance, we can reach the number and still have a substantial contingency,” said Mandel. “So, I think it’s a pretty good news story, personally.”
“Now, during the next six months, discussions will have to take place as to what you want to have in and what you don’t want to have in, what you’re going to have to give and what you’re going to have to take.”
Pretty good news story? Can you explain further Mr. Mandel? Wake me up until actual construction workers are starting to build the complex. I think all Edmonton hockey fans are tired of the projections of how much this thing will cost.
