Stampeders trounce Alouettes in season opener

The Calgary Stampeders got off to a winning note to start the 2012 season.

On Sunday night at McMahon Stadium, Jon Cornish had 86 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while quarterback Drew Tate had 299 yards passing and a touchdown pass in a 38-10 Calgary win over the Montreal Alouetttes.

It was western domination in week one of the CFL season as the west went a perfect 4-0 against the east.

The Stampeders deserve an A grade for their overall play. The defense in particular came up huge.

Rookie non-import defensive back Keenan MacDougall picked up a Jamel Richardson fumble and ran 63 yards.

The Stampeders put continued pressure on Anthony Calvillo the entire game. I know Calvillo has numerous CFL passing records, but I feel he is definitely showing his age. He just never seemed comfortable in the pocket.

If there was one of concern, it was Drew Tate’s overall decision making while in the pocket. Twice he threw interceptions on what could be considered poor decisions.
