The Calgary Stampeders failed to get above the .500 mark Saturday night at McMahon Stadium.
Running back Chad Kackert had 94 yards rushing and had an additional 41 yards receiving as the Toronto Argonauts defeated the Calgary Stampeders 22-14. With the loss, the Stampeders dropped to 3-4 in the Western Division standings, while the Argonauts improved to 4-3 in the East.
One half of the Argonauts wins this season have come against the Stampeders. They beat them on July 7 at Rogers Centre in Toronto by a score of 39-36 on a game winning field goal by Noel Prefontaine.
Now with Prefontaine out with a hip injury, Swayze Waters has performed admirably as Prefontaine’s replacement. Waters connected on five field goals Saturday night, even though three of them were relative chip shots.
Penalties hurt the Stampeders significantly. The Stampeders took 28 more yards in penalties than the Argonauts, highlighted by a dumb unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by Nik Lewis that put the Stampeders back ten yards when they were inside Toronto’s 5 yard line.
