You know there is controversy when an incident is compared to the TSN top ten altercations lists of all time.

That was the case yesterday at the Honda Edmonton Indy when Brazilian superstar Helio Castroneves grabbed an official after being penalized a lap for blocking teammate Will Power with three laps to go in the race.

Kiwi Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi was the eventual winner. The New Zealander won his second Edmonton Indy. He previously won two years ago in 2008.

The sounds from the Edmonton City Centre Airport will be heard throughout the city on Sunday as the sixth Honda Edmonton Indy comes to the provincial capital.

The best open wheel drivers in the world will race for glory.

The most intriguing battles on the weekend will be Penske vs. Target Chip Ganassi. Penske is led by 2009 Edmonton Indy champion Will Power of Australia, three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves of Brazil  and Australian Ryan Briscoe, who finished third in the 2009 IndyCar standings. Target Chip Ganassi, meanwhile, is led by 2008 Indianapolis 500 winner and 2008 Edmonton Indy Champion Scott Dixon of New Zealand and two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti of Scotland. Louis Oosthuizen (Alastair Grant, Associated Press)

Every now and then, an athlete that may not have been the most recognizable on the international sports scene, comes to the forefront.

On the weekend in St. Andrews, Scotland, that athlete became South African Louis Oosthuizen.

Oosthuizen, was ranked 54th in the World Golf Rankings a week ago, but used his driver with excellence on the weekend, and defeated Lee Westwood by seven strokes to win the British Open.

If you’re thinking Oosthuizen came out of nowhere to win the Open, you’re right. Only once before had the 27 year-old made the cut at a Major Championship. Oosthuizen finished 73rd at the 2008 PGA Championship in Oakland Hills, Michigan. He now becomes the most popular athlete in the history of sports whose last name begins with two o’s.

So, I, like many will wait and see if Oosthuizen is the next Els, Goosen or Player or the next Lawrie, Beem or Micheel. Time will tell.
