Throughout the course of this show people have been asking me how long the show will last since there is so many strikes that need to be given out; well last night is how. Six strikes were handed out!! I am so grateful that I wasn’t one that collected!

Big Break Dominican Republic – Episode 6
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010Big Break Dominican Republic – Episode 5
Monday, November 1st, 2010
Well the weather kept us waiting to see what happens and I guess it will do the same for you! We will have to see what happens next week between Elena and Andrew, but leading up to this match we played awesome! I can honestly tell you that the first distance challenge was an absolute blast. We made a challenge that is actually quite hard look like a 20 handicapper could do it. It isn’t easy to hit a shot just past another ball while trying not to hit it too far past, but we did such a great job.
The Big Break – Dominican Republic – Episode 4
Friday, October 22nd, 2010
I’m a little late with the blog , its been a busy week. Helped raise money for the First Tee in Little Rock, did a Golfing with the Girls clinic and just yesterday played with the Rock legend Alice Cooper and his lead guitarist, Damon Johnson. Great dudes, perfect attitudes and salty players!!! Alice shot 75! Even par on the back and 3 birdies. Thanks for a great day guys and enjoy the rest of your tour!!!
As for the Big Break this week was another victory for the ladies! Super excited about it and hoping that we can keep this momentum going, its a girls show thus far!!! hahaha But it wouldn’t be half as entertaining without the boys!!!
Big Break – Dominican Republic – Episode 3
Wednesday, October 20th, 2010
Whatta show! We pulled off the biggest upset so far this series, we beat the boys in the benching challenge with the 1 stroke deficit. Blair and Lori played so well and I think it was a great show for Blair’s confidence; she really needed to play well in that challenge and she did! Like I said before the challenge started “if this backfires on the boys its going to be the biggest mistake so far”! And it did.
We all know the results of the benching challenge, but the reason we got into the situation is because we played so poorly in the flop wall challenge and we just couldn’t get it back in the drive accuracy since we were so far back. Watching the show it was so frustrating because we really screwed up the first challenge and how we approached it. Looking at the challenge before we made teams, and chose the order in which we played, we ladies figured the first wall was going to be the easiest part and the second wall was going to be very hard since it was so tall and we had to get it so close to the hole…..We were wrong! That first wall posed a big challenge for everyone but Blake, he rocked it! It only took him 2 shots to place the ball perfectly, it was amazing. On TV that shot didn’t look that hard, but being there it was very difficult we should have played it so different. In that challenge Blair, Elena and myself felt very confident so we were all going to go for the second wall and Brenda and Lori were going to go first, this was probably a mistake. The first wall was so important because everyone was trying to get it up and down fast and that’s harder than being able to have room to fly it. We tried our best and now we know, but I would have loved to take a rip at that wall!
Big Break – Dominican Republic – Episode 2
Friday, October 8th, 2010The second show is done and girls win!!!
Going into the second show we as a team decided that the first challenge of the day is the biggest thing in this season and as you can tell by the results it was! We need to have the advantage of winning the benching challenge and get the advantage! We pretty much played even with the guys in the morning, I won my match vs. Brian and Lori won hers. I’m didn’t play as solid as I would have liked, but I still got the job done and as many people in golf know…it really doesn’t matter how you do it, it matters that its done! It was tough that we had to go to a playoff , but I feel it was the right decision to put Lori in the playoff.
I know Lori and I have had our issues, but Im thrilled she was on my team for this show. She really stepped up in the playoff and beat Andrew with a great birdie, that’s the best way to win…and she also got it done in the benching challenge with Dave. Its a huge momentum boost for the girls getting Brenda back and having a boy on the bench.
We need to keep this momemtum going and keep the girls on the winning side of things….its all about the team win and getting all boys eliminated!
I know that the next show will be crazy…ups and downs and emotions all the way with twists and turns….enjoy the show and talk to you next week.

Weekend Recap August 27-29
Monday, August 30th, 2010Well, I won’t discuss football here because John and I have already discussed the Eskimos and Stampeders in length, while Brian Swane has blogged about Canada’s devastating loss to Lithuania yesterday morning at the World Basketball Championships in Turkey.
So, that leaves me discussing about golf– and the CN Canadian Women’s Open yesterday in Winnipeg.
The tournament was won by Michelle Wie. The 20 year-old Hawaiian won her second LPGA event. Lorie Kane, a previous Prospect Magazine “Words from the Next Level” Contributor finished tied for 11th, her best showing on tour in 2010.
But I will remember the 2010 CN Canadian Women’s Open because a quote from one of Canada’s most famous broadcasting personalities.
While watching Hawaiian Michelle Wie win, CBC’s Ron MacLean who was the head broadcaster yesterday, said the following:
“Statistics are like bikinis. They reveal a lot, but don’t reveal everything.”
Ok, his comment might have been risky. If he said it in the 1970′s when the feminist movement was in full swing, there might have been a huge uproar. But I thought it was a little funny. I would like to know what your thoughts are? Did MacLean cross the line here or did he put a smile on your face?
Weekend Preview August 27-29
Friday, August 27th, 2010The World Basketball Championships takes center stage this weekend from Turkey. Canada is playing its round robin games in Izmir, a city of about 2.7 million people on the western part of the region.
Canada is led by Joel Anthony of the Miami Heat and Andy Rautins, the Syracuse product who was recently drafted by the New York Knicks. Edmonton’s Jermaine Bucknor, who plays professionally in France for Clermont will be counted on to provide valuable minutes off the bench.
Canada’s first game in the World Championship goes tomorrow morning against Lebanon, a team that beat Canada in a tuneup game 88-76 earlier in the week. The game can be seen on TSN2 at 9:30am MT.
Then on Sunday, Canada will face the powerful Lithuanians, the co-favourite with Spain in Group D (TSN2 at 7am). When Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union, the majority of basketball players that participated for the powerful USSR in international basketball events came from the Lithuanian region. As an independent country, Lithuania has won the bronze medal at three Summer Olympic Games in 1992 (Barcelona), 1996 (Atlanta), and 2000 (Sydney). They also won the 2003 European Basketball Championships in Sweden. (more…)
Weekend Recap–July 10-11
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010John Short said it best in his recent column. The World Cup Final was a case of “dull, duller, and dullest.”
It was a complete bore in every sense of the word, and reminded me of your typical Anaheim Duck/Minnesota Wild Western Conference Final game from 2003.
Defense, defense and more defense.
In the end, John and I look like actual geniuses. We picked Spain, and at the end of the day, that’s not bad for two guys who don’t really have a great appetite for the sport 365 days of the year. (more…)
Weekend Preview July 9-11
Friday, July 9th, 2010
Ok, my life isn’t as adventurous as Crystal’s. All the best to her daily experiences in India and her fight against MS.
It is a thrill for me to report that Spain is only one win away from winning the World Cup, as John Short and I successfully predicted. Spain’s defense was flawless Wednesday in their 1-0 win over Germany, and the team will be counting on Xavi again on Sunday. Spain’s depth on D is spectacular and should win if they play the same way in the final as they did the semi-final. The Dutch will need to find a different offensive strategy than was used by the Germans. The pressure will be on Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt to break through.
Game time of Sunday’s final between Netherlands and Spain on ABC and CBC is 12:30pm.
Here are the other events I will be keeping an eye on this weekend:
Friday–5:00pm–MLB–Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays–Sportsnet–The Blue Jays have their final series before the All-Star break. At 43-43, the Jays are falling back quickly in the American League East–they are currently 11.5 games back of the division leading New York Yankees, who are close to acquiring pitcher Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox will send lefthander Jon Lester to the mound. The native of Tacoma, Washington, is a cancer survivor and has posted a remarkable 10-3 record with 118 strikeouts and a 2.78 ERA.
Saturday–11am–CFL–Calgary Stampeders @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats–TSN–This is the first game of an Eastern road trip for the Stamps. They play the Toronto Argonauts at the Rogers Centre on Wednesday. Calgary will be looking to get more consistent on offense after a lackluster 30-16 win over the Argos last week. Hamilton meanwhile struggled mightily defensively in week one, giving up 49 points to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Both teams will try to get things back on track in the early part of the 2010 CFL schedule.
Saturday–5pm–MLB–Cleveland Indians @ Tampa Bay Rays–Sportsnet–This will be my first time this season checking in on a Tampa Bay Rays squad that currently has a three game lead over Boston for the American League Wildcard. The Rays at the present time have a second baseman I’m interested in watching. I recently picked up Sean Rodriguez in my fantasy pool after recent injuries to Phillies’ All-Star Chase Utley and Giants’ utilityman Juan Uribe. Rodriguez is batting .274, with six home runs and 30 RBI’s, in only 208 at bats.
Saturday–8pm–MLB–New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners–Sportsnet–Despite having the best record in baseball, the New York Yankees felt their weakness was in starting pitching. No problem. They are about to acquire Mariner ace Cliff Lee in a blockbuster deal. Lee, the 2008 Cy Young Award winner with Cleveland, is 8-3, with 89 strikeouts and a 2.34 earned run average for Seattle in 2010. The Yankees have won six in a row, and have received a fantastic season from second baseman Robinson Cano, who leads the team with a .339 batting average and 16 home runs.
Saturday–8pm–CFL–Saskatchewan Roughriders @ B.C. Lions-TSN–The Lions will make their Empire Stadium return tomorrow evening as B.C. Place is renovated. Last week, defensive back Korey Banks recorded three tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble, as the Lions limited the Eskimos to a single rushing touchdown in a 25-10 victory. The Roughriders might have won the game of the year, a thrilling 54-51 overtime win over Montreal, in a Grey Cup rematch. Darian Durant threw for six touchdowns and ran for another major score.
Sunday–2:30pm–Golf–U.S. Women’s Open–NBC–The 65th U.S. Women’s Open is currently being staged at the Oakmont Golf and Country Club, just outside of Pittsburgh. Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson is the present leader at even par. She leads seven others by one stroke. Hamilton’s Alena Sharp will probably make the cut. She is currently tied for 67th at +8. Sunday’s action is the fourth and final round. Don’t forget, if there is a playoff, it will be Monday and eighteen holes.
Sunday–5pm–CFL–Montreal Alouettes @ Edmonton Eskimos–TSN–The Eskimos will try and avoid an early season hole as they take on the Grey Cup Champion Alouettes. Esks QB Ricky Ray really struggled on the new Commonwealth turf last week and will try and regroup Sunday night. The Als meanwhile will need to improve on defense, after letting the Roughriders back into the game on many occasions last week.
Questions, questions . . .

It’s an old media trick to present controversial issues and ask at the bottom of a column or article: what does the reader think?
But this is new media. Now, when we ask what you think, we’re asking for a sort of partnership. We really want you to help us spark conversation on the website.
With that in mind, please consider these issues and answer as many of them as you want. (more…)
