Barons eliminated from Calder Cup Playoffs–How should Oilers fans feel?

The Oklahoma City Barons, the American Hockey League Affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, have been eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Friday night in Oklahoma City, the Barons lost 3-1 to the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs in game five of the Western Conference Final. The Marlies won the series 4-1 and will play the equally rested Norfolk Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Calder Cup Finals.

Right winger Matt Frattin led the way with two goals and defenceman Simon Gysbers scored the game winning goal for the Marlies at 8:38 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie.

Chris VandeVelde scored the only goal for Oklahoma City with 15 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at one.

Wild name Mike Yeo head coach

The Minnesota Wild have named Mike Yeo as their third head coach in franchise history.

Yeo replaces Todd Richards, who was fired on April 11.

The hiring of Yeo is a little bit of a surprise, as former Edmonton Oiler head coach Craig MacTavish, was considered the favourite. Now, MacTavish is expected to be the head coach in Winnipeg.

Yeo, 37, spent five seasons as the assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and has his name on the Stanley Cup, after helping lead the Penguins to the 2009 Stanley Cup over the Detroit Red Wings.
