The $9.7 million renovations for Calgary’s Olympic Oval are nearly completed.
On Wednesday, the Calgary media were invited for a very interesting sneak peek and I attended on behalf of www.anysportanytime.ca.
The oval covers 20 000 square meters, and is one of Calgary’s most impressive structures. Moisture had sometimes leaked into the facility at times of over the last decade, when there was heavy rain, and with the renovations, the hope is that problem will never occur again.
The Olympic Oval continues to be known for its impressively fast ice. There are six current significant World Records that were set at the Oval–Jeremy Wotherspoon of Canada in the men’s 500m, Eskil Ervik of Norway in the men’s 3000m, Sven Kramer of Holland in the men’s 5000m, Cindy Klassen of Canada in the women’s 1000m and 3000m and the women’s team pursuit set by Kristina Groves, Christine Nesbitt and Brittany Schussler.
