Moore to represent Alberta at 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Sunday might just have been one of the greatest days in the history of Grande Prairie sports. At the 2013 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts  final in Lethbridge, Kristie Moore of the Grande Prairie Curling Club defeated Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie 8-7 in an extra end.

Moore, has curled on the largest curling stage before, but only as a fifth player for Calgary’s Cheryl Bernard’s Silver medal winning rink at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Field set for Scotties Tournament of Hearts

We now know what curling teams will represent their respective provinces at the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer from February 18-26.

Team Alberta will be represented by Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin who will be skipping at her second National Championship. She finished 6-5 at the 2000 Scott Tournament of Hearts in Prince George, British Columbia. Nedohin defeated Jessie Kaufman 8-5 Sunday in Leduc.

Nedohin has significant experience at the National Championship. She won the Scott Tournament of Hearts in 1998 as a third to Cathy King. Nedohin also represented Alberta at the 1997 Scott Tournament of Hearts.

Other very notable names are defending champion Amber Holland of Team Canada, 2007 World Champion Kelly Scott of British Columbia and 2008 World Champion Jennifer Jones of Manitoba.
