Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Anaheim Ducks forward Bobby Ryan scored one of the strangest goals of the year on Sunday night in a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Wild.

In the final minutes of the second period with the Ducks leading 4-2, Wild captain Mikko Koivu loses his stick in the corner, skates past Ryan, rips the stick out of his hand and then starts playing with it! Since the refs didn’t see what had happened, play continued and about 20 seconds later Ryan decides to pick Koivu’s stick up off the ice – before realizing it’s the wrong hand… (more…)

FC Edmonton set to host Portsmouth in friendly

Ok, soccer fan, I know you’re out there.
I saw you throughout the World Cup, packing bars to watch matches, driving with your country’s flag attached to the car window, and proudly wearing its jersey.
Well now that the action in South Africa is over, there’s a local side that could use your support – and they’ve got a match in the offing that deserves a little attention.

The second annual Edmonton Cup will see FC Edmonton host England’s Portsmouth FC at Commonwealth Stadium Wednesday night. For its final high-profile match of the year, FCE is bringing in big guns, an historic English side that is on a pre-season tour of North America, and it’s up to local football fans to respond in kind.
