Well, the good news from Monday night is that Team Canada is only one win away from going to the Olympic Games in men’s soccer following a 1-1 tie with Cuba in Nashville.
The bad news is that Team Canada was only two minutes away from playing an easier opponent in Honduras in the semi-finals, played with no second half energy in the lacklustre draw and will need to pull out a second miracle if they plan to book the ticket to London for the 2012 Olympic Games because they are probably forced to play the mighty Mexicans.
Canada simply could not hang on to a first half goal by Evan James, and fell to a win and two draws in the tournament, rather than two wins and a draw. Cuban Mikael Reyes scored on a header from a free kick to put a dagger in Canada’s Olympic hopes.
Another real shocker on Monday night in Nashville though, is that the small country of El Salvador tied the United States of America 3-3. eliminating the Americans.
The semi-finals will take place Saturday in Kansas City.
