Carol Huynh (Mike Ridewood, Canadian Olympic Committee)
Carol Huynh (pronounced win) of New Hazelton, British Columbia has won Canada’s 14th medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Huynh, who currently lives in Calgary, defeated Isabelle Sambou of Senegal 1-0, 1-0 in each round by a sudden death clinch in the women’s 48 kilogram freestyle wrestling bronze medal match.
After each round went to a scoreless draw in regulation, Huynh got lucky each time and had her blue ball selected to have the opportunity to be in a favourable wrestling hold position. With Sambou’s leg having to be forward, it gave Huynh the opportunity to grab Sambou’s lower limb and score the necessary point each time.
