About a decade ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the stingiest defense in the National Football League. Led by Derrick Brooks, Dwight Smith, Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Ronde Barber, Dexter Jackson and John Lynch, the Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII by beating the Oakland Raiders 48-21.
Over the last decade however, the Buccaneers defense has regressed significantly. Two years ago, the Buccaneers gave up a league high 494 points and then last year, the Buccaneers made slight progress, but still gave up 394 points, the ninth most in the NFL.

Super Bowl XLV takes place Sunday. So, there’s no better time than to do a breakdown of the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers and the AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Both the Steelers and Packers have rich histories in the NFL. Green Bay won the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and 1968, and then with Brett Favre leading the way, Green Bay knocked off New England in Super Bowl XXXI in 1997.
The Steelers have won six times. Led by Terry Bradshaw, they won four times in six years from 1975-1980. Then over the last decade, Pittsburgh defeated Seattle 21-10 in 2006 and Arizona 27-23 in 2009.
Super Bowl XLV should be the highest attended game in Super Bowl history. A total of 103,985 fans watched the Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Los Angeles Rams 31-19 in 1980 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Dallas’s Cowboys Stadium has a capacity of 111,000, and even if the weather continues to be poor in Texas, expect a sell out.

James Harrison (Bing Images)
We are now approaching Week 14.
So far, I have a solid record of 122-70, and am red hot the last three weeks going 40-10 over that time. Last week I was 12-4 and was wrong with San Diego, Indianapolis, Miami and Denver.
Here are my picks for week 14– or the first week of the fantasy playoffs!
Thursday Night
Indianapolis over Tennessee–The Colts will try to get Peyton Manning back on track. He has thrown 11 interceptions the last three games– all Indianapolis defeats. But wait. It hasn’t been that bad. Manning has thrown for 8 touchdowns and passed for 1046 yards over that time. The Titans were shutout by the Texans two weeks ago, and only scored six points against the Jaguars last week. Why am I not hearing anybody complain about the ineptness lately of Chris Johnson?

Targeting Harrison?
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison is feeling a tad bit paranoid these days, $125,000 later, as the fines handed down by the league continue to add up.
This week Harrison came out and said that he believes he is being unfairly targeted when it comes to supplementary discipline and his teammates seem to agree. It must be frustrating for him to see former Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniel fined $50,000 for his role in a videotape scandal, and two guys fined $25,000 each for an on-field fist fight – all the while, Harrison gets slapped with a $75,000 fine for a hit that wasn’t even penalized on the field!
Adding another interesting wrinkle to this story is the fact that the Steelers are now claiming that Harrison was again targeted this past weekend…this time by the Baltimore Ravens! (more…)
