This is what I’ll be watching this weekend!
Saturday–2pm–New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers–(Yankees lead ALCS 1-0)–Sportsnet–The New York Yankees have an excellent shot of going up 2-0 in the ALCS, as Yankees’ 18 game winner Phil Hughes goes up against Colby Lewis of the Rangers. This is when statistics can be a little deceiving however because even though Hughes was 18-8, he had a regular season earned run average of 4.19 compared to Lewis’s record of 12-13 and earned run average of 3.72.
Saturday & Sunday–6pm–San Francisco Giants @ Philadelphia Phillies–Games 1 & 2– FOX–The National League Championship Series will be excellent if you like pitching, as both teams are stacked at the starting positions. The Phillies will start Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt respectively while the Giants counter with Tim Lincecum and Jonathan Sanchez. For some reason, the little voice at the back of my head is picking the Giants to win the series in an upset. Watch and learn people.
Saturday–8pm–CFL–Edmonton Eskimos @ British Columbia Lions–TSN–If the Eskimos (4-10) make the playoffs like someone on this website is basically guaranteeing, they’ll have to win Saturday night. The Lions (5-9) will obviously start Travis Lulay, who in my opinion is overrated. The Eskimos sent Noel Prefontaine to the Argos this week, and picked up the younger Justin Medlock off waivers, who I am very high on. This is the first gutsy move by Tillman, and I’ll be watching closely, if it works out.
Saturday–8pm–NHL–Edmonton Oilers @ Calgary Flames–CBC–In a rare time when the Oilers and Eskimos play at the same time, both teams are trying to rebound after Thursday losses where they were clearly outplayed by their opponents. The Flames (1-2) seem to be in more of a funk than the Oilers (2-1), so I am going to give the slight edge to Edmonton. How the young Oilers respond in hostile territory is a big question however.
Sunday–11am–CFL–Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Montreal Alouettes–TSN–Both teams are coming off Thanksgiving wins– Winnipeg against B.C. and Montreal against Calgary. It will be interesting to see if the Bombers (4-10) gain any momentum from their remarkable come from behind win against British Columbia. I say no because the Alouettes (10-4) just looked way too strong Monday.
Sunday–11am–NFL–Seattle Seahawks @ Chicago Bears–FOX–The Seahawks (2-2) have outscored their opponents so far 58-26 at home and have been outscored 51-17 on the road. They got hammered by the Rams two weeks ago, and then the Rams got hammered by the Lions. It could be a long afternoon for Pete Carroll and company as they face the defensive pounding Chicago Bears (4-1).
Sunday–2pm–NFL–Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings–FOX–Yes, both of these teams are shockingly 1-3 to start the season, and both will have difficulty making the playoffs because of the difficult schedules they’ll have to face the rest of the way. Welcome to the NFL. The Cowboys seem to be playing a little better than the Vikings who seem out of sync in the early going.
Sunday–6pm–NFL–Indianapolis Colts @ Washington Redskins–NBC–The Colts (3-2) will look to continue to play solid defense after stopping the Chiefs to only nine points last week. The Colts’ rush defense concerns me however, as Maurice Jones Drew and Arian Foster have looked excellent in the Colts’ two road losses. The Redskins should utilize the run over the pass Sunday night.
