Happy Monday!

This week on the show we’re talking NHL playoffs & suspensions, along with some of the first teams to move on to the next round and another clock controversy from last week’s action. Also: we discuss a perfect game in the MLB and a legend leaving women’s basketball.

In the GABBYs: Martin Brodeur, Jamie Moyer, Washington Capitals fans, an Alabama parent, the Charlotte Bobcats and the Orlando Magic. The Punchline this week is high school baseball player Jameson Painter.

Overtime magic continues in playoffs

An interesting theme so far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs  have been the number of games that have gone into an extra period.

The number is currently seven after three more overtime games on Saturday. Washington beat Boston 2-1 on an overtime winner by Nicklas Backstrom yesterday afternoon. Then last night, Chris Neil scored the overtime winner for the Senators in a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers and then Bryan Bickell scored the overtime winner (his first of two on the night) in a 4-3 Chicago win over Phoenix.

The Sens/Rangers series is definitely starting to heat up. Last night at Madison Square Garden, Senators defenceman Matt Carkner went after Rangers’ Brian Boyle and basically showed him who is boss by delivering a dozen consecutive punches at his face after Boyle checked Zack Smith. The altercation was payback for the Senators because in Game 1 Boyle had gone after and attacked Norris Trophy favourite Erik Karlsson. Carkner, and Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky got game misconducts from the altercation. Dubinsky was ejected for being the third man in.

Another Shot?

Peter Forsberg’s on again, off again relationship with the NHL appears to be “on again.”

Well, not quite. But sort of.

The 37-year-old, who hasn’t played in the NHL since April of 2008 because of a recurring foot injury (among other things), is back in his old stomping grounds to see if he’s still got it. ESPN reports Forsberg will start skating with the Colorado Avalanche today in an effort to gauge where he’s at as far as conditioning and to see if his foot holds up at that level…(After the jump: More Forsberg, Nathan Gerbe & Flyers/Sens line brawl) (more…)
