U.S. Senior Open shouldn’t be this week

It is not many times where I discuss senior men’s golf.

But the Champions Tour schedule is significantly wacky. Why? Well the United States Senior Open is exactly a week after the British Senior Open and has been since 2008.

Having the British Senior Open and United States Senior Open on back to back weekends, in my opinion is even more challenging than the Tour de France.

The players would strike if the PGA Tour scheduled the PGA Championship the weekend directly after the British Open! Woods and Mickelson would be doing temper tantrums! Wait, I think we’ve seen Woods do a few of those already.

It is an outstanding mental exam to play two major tournaments on back-to-back weekends and it is even more remarkable that German Bernhard Langer was able to accomplish the double victory a year ago several time zones apart.

Hadwin one shot back at Canadian Open

Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, British Columbia is in excellent position to end a Canadian drought that has lasted since 1954.

Hadwin (-4) is only shot back of American Bo Van Pelt (-5) after the third round of the RBC Canadian Open at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver. No Canadian has won the Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher won in 1954 and no Canadian born golfer has won the Canadian Open since Karl Keffer of Tottenham, Ontario in 1914.

Hadwin, 23, was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and raised just outside of Vancouver.

But Hadwin is not the only golfer making significant noise this weekend. Fan favourite John Daly, who has not won on the PGA Tour since 2004, but has a PGA Championship and British Open title attached to his name, is at -2 and is tied for fifth place with former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy of Australia. Daly has battled drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions throughout his life, but is a fan favourite wherever he goes. In round two, he had pants with the red Canadian maple leaf all over them.
