The former head coach of the Calgary Flames will coach Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Edmonton and Calgary from December 26 to January 5.
According to The Canadian Press, Don Hay, who coached the Calgary Flames in 2000-01, as well as the Phoenix Coyotes in 1996-97, ironically coached Team Canada to a Gold Medal the last time the World Junior Hockey Championships were in Alberta, in Red Deer in 1995.
The last six years Hay has coached the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants, winning the Memorial Cup in 2007. Hay also won the Memorial Cup coaching the Kamloops Blazers in 1994 and 1995.
Drafted in the 12th round by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1974 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Hay played in the International Hockey League for three seasons.

It’s been an interesting week for jersey gaffes hasn’t it?
